The UBC Equestrian Club was constituted to provide an opportunity for University riders of all levels to participate in intercollegiate competitions through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Show Circuit. However, our main goal has always been to bring together UBC's Equine community. We offer social events for riders and horse enthusiasts to meet one another and learn, forming a community of "horse people" at UBC. Whatever your level of expertise, we encourage you to come out and find your place at the club! Whether you want to compete, are interested in lessons, or simply want to be involved in UBC's equine community, the UBC equestrian club offers the chance to bond over one thing we have in common; horses!
As a member of the UBC Equestrian Club, there are two options for members. For those who have the desire to travel to the United States and compete against universities in Washington and Oregon, we offer the chance to show through the IHSA, please see our Show Team page for more information.
If competing is not for you, UBC Equestrian also offers a membership that revolves around social events that are both horse and non-horse related.
Some of these events include:
Team outings (restaurants dinners, movie nights, bowling, ice skating, etc),
Club riding lessons,
Attending local horse clinics,
A trip to Hastings Racecourse (the thoroughbred racetrack in Vancouver),
and volunteering (Southlands Therapeutic Riding Society, Greener Pastures).
Above all, the non-showing side of our club is a great way to meet friends and enjoy the camaraderie developed through the love of horses.
